CCSU adds Yale and D-II AIC to future schedules

Post by J.J. » Wed Mar 18, 2020 12:38 pm

WOW! A trip to the Yale Bowl in 2024. Boola Boola!

Per FBSchedules.com:
The Central Connecticut Blue Devils have added games against Yale and American International to their future football schedules, FBSchedules.com has learned.

A copy of the contracts for games with Yale University and American International College were obtained from Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) via a state Freedom of Information Act request.

Northeast Conference (NEC) member Central Connecticut will travel to take on the Yale Bulldogs of the Ivy League at the Yale Bowl in New Haven, Conn., on October 5, 2024. Per the copy of the contract, Yale will pay Central Connecticut a $10,000 guarantee and will provide 1,000 complimentary tickets for the contest.

The 2024 Central Connecticut at Yale contest will mark the first-ever meeting between the two schools on the gridiron.

Yale is the third scheduled non-conference opponent for Central Connecticut in 2024. The Blue Devils are also scheduled to host the Fordham Rams on Sept. 28 and travel to face the Dartmouth Big Green on Oct. 19.

The Yale Bulldogs now have two scheduled non-conference opponents for the 2024 season. Yale is also scheduled to play at Holy Cross on Sept. 21.

The American International College (AIC) Yellow Jackets, members of the Northeast-10 Conference in Division II, will travel to play Central Connecticut at Arute Field in New Britain, Conn., on Sept. 6, 2025. The Yellow Jackets will receive a $10,000 guarantee and 250 complimentary tickets for playing the game, according to the contract copy.

Central Connecticut and American International first met in 1936 and have met a total of 47 times on the gridiron. In their most recent matchup in 1992, AIC defeated CCSU 40-12 to extend their lead in the series to 31-13-3.

American International is the third scheduled non-conference opponent for Central Connecticut in 2025. Other contests for the Blue Devils that season include the UConn Huskies on Aug. 30 and Fordham on Sept. 27, both on the road.

Is there a return game in New Britain?
CCSU Class of 2004
Football NEC Champions: 2004 * 2005 * 2009 * 2010 * 2017 * 2019
Men's Basketball NEC Champions: 2000 * 2002 * 2007
The only Men's Basketball team in Connecticut to make the 2006-2007 NCAA Tournament - CCSU Blue Devils!

Very doubtful.
We wanted to play them much, much more than they wished to play us.
So, we're lucky. Let's hope for a solid, exciting game.

Ha ... I doubt it. We got $10K and 1K tickets in payment from Yale.

Yale averaged 5,700 for all non-Harvard home games at the Bowl in 2019. While it would be a great game in New Britain, it isn't realistic to expect a historic program like Yale to bus up to play at Arute or even Veterans Stadium. Hell, they got a NCAA waiver and hosted Army back in 2014 (probably the only time a FCS program hosted a FBS program in the last 25 years)

Since returning to CCSU as a football season ticket holder in the late ‘90s, I always looked upon the opportunity to play Yale as our Holy Grail. The Bowl’s history, tradition, and atmosphere would be the final acknowledgment and acceptance of CCSU football as a Connecticut Division I program.

This could be a great opportunity to market not only our athletic programs but the University itself. And the goal must be an ambitious one.

CCSU should dedicate itself to bringing 10,000 Blue Devil fans to this game.

Our Alumni & Development Department should get together with Athletics to promote 10.5.24 as a sort of “Homecoming Away from Home.” The experience would be replete with CCSU Alumni tents, student buses, and as many of the trappings of an on-campus event as are feasible.

And of course it would require a determined effort to market the event to all alumni, sponsors, and friends of CCSU. If these efforts are successful, then the probability is good that the inaugural CCSU-Yale game will have the Bowl’s largest attendance for the 2024 season.

The good news is we have 4 ½ years to get the job done.
