SHU Announces Television Package With SNY

Post by J.J. » Fri Nov 15, 2019 4:32 pm

Sacred Heart now has a television deal for football and basketball, while CCSU dropped radio coverage of games 2 seasons ago.
The Sacred Heart University Department of Athletics is pleased to announce a television package with SportsNet New York (SNY). The first live event of the package is Saturday's senior day football game versus Lehigh, with a 12:00 pm air time. Founded by Sterling Entertainment Enterprises, Time Warner and Comcast, SNY is available to viewers throughout New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, and northeastern Pennsylvania, and nationally on DIRECTV, Verizon FiOS, Comcast Cable, and AT&T U-Verse.

"We are thrilled to partner with SNY and bring Pioneer athletics to their viewership," said SHU Executive Director of Athletics Bobby Valentine. "The opportunity to bring our brand and athletic excellence to the largest media market in the world is an important part of the continued growth of our University. We look forward to a prosperous and expanding partnership in the seasons to come."

The Pioneers men's basketball home opener, Tuesday, November 19 is the first basketball game of the package. Randy Brochu will call the action, with Freddie Coleman and Diana Cannizzaro on the football game and Joe DeSantis joining him for the men's basketball game. Five basketball games in February will also air as part of the agreement

The SHU production team brings together representatives from SHU athletics and the School of Communications. Faculty, staff and students from across the campus collaborate to produce the broadcasts. The results demonstrate the hands-on learning that SHU students receive through their academic programs, as well as showcase their talent and creativity.

SNY was also a major sponsor of the Connecticut Ice tournament in Bridgeport this weekend, which was won by the Pioneers who defeated Yale 6-2 and Quinnipiac 4-1. The timing could not have been better for AD Bobby Valentine. This story dropped on the SHU website yesterday:

Beat me to it shoreline :)

SHU wins the inaugural Connecticut Ice Tournament (a poor man's Boston Beanpot) including a win over #17 Quinnipiac at Harbor Yards Arena in Bridgeport. On the same day they announce plans for an on campus (Former GE HQ property in Fairfield) 4,000 seat ice rink. No mention of playing basketball there, but it will feature have other uses.
FAIRFIELD, Conn.— Sacred Heart University will build a nearly 4,000-capacity, $60 million hockey and skating arena on its West Campus in Fairfield, SHU President John J. Petillo announced today. "The facility will be home to our Division I men's and women's hockey programs, our nationally ranked figure skating team and our men's club ice hockey team. It is the continuation of a robust, multi-year building and expansion program reflecting our significant growth, appeal and national status," he said.

Scheduled for completion in 2022, the modern arena will feature a number of amenities for students and guests, including a pro shop, beer gardens, food venues, suites, meeting rooms and offices. Construction will begin this summer.

"This arena will be the Division I intercollegiate skating crown jewel and a standout facility in the Northeast," said Jim Barquinero, senior vice president, enrollment, student affairs & athletics. "In addition to providing a sophisticated and beautiful home venue for our teams, it will serve our entire university community and residents throughout the region," he said.
The building also will be used to host special events such as guest lectures, concerts, convocations and other activities open to students and the community. In addition, there will be ice skating time available to students, faculty, staff and community members.

Anosike transferring is a big loss for SHU. He had a 15 ppg/12rpg average. Players with those kind of numbers do not come along very often.
We have seen that the graduate transfer rule is a double edged sword. Central got a pretty good QB in football last year.
Anyway, there is no reason for anyone to complain, the whole point of attending a University is to graduate, and I cannot blame any player who decides to take the graduate transfer route.

This is something we really don’t have to worry about because we’re never any good and can’t seem to hardly get to a double digit win season but this must suck for them and can only imagine how pissed I’d be if the shoe was on the other foot .
