Mike Anthony is replacing the insufferable Jeff Jacobs as the Courant's sports columnist.

Congrats to Mike, he was a fantastic beat writer when he covered CCSU and did a great job on UConn football as well.
After a months-long search for the right candidate to take on the job of speaking to -- and for -- Connecticut’s passionate sports fans, the Courant is excited to announce that Mike Anthony has been named the Courant’s new sports columnist.

Anthony is a veteran of the Connecticut sports scene. In his 18 years at the Courant he has covered the 2011 national title run for the UConn men’s basketball team, the UConn football team as well as various high school, college and pro teams across Connecticut. Most recently, he stepped into the role of covering the UConn women’s basketball team.

He will begin his new role in May and we are confident readers will warm to his crisp style and no-nonsense approach.

“There are fascinating stories at all levels that need telling or re-telling, and no shortage of compelling people to introduce or reintroduce,” Anthony said. “I'm honored to be a voice and excited for a different, closer examination of the vibrant Connecticut sports scene.”

Anthony replaces former Courant columnist Jeff Jacobs, who left the organization in early January.
