This has all the earmarks of an FBS program on an eventual collision course with a downgrade to FCS, probably with the Colonial Conference. The EE would be joining former Yankee Conference colleagues UNH, URI, and Maine.

UConn plays out their FBS hand until 2026 or so. They can scrap together a schedule for some time.

Once it become obvious they can't afford it and aren't playing National peers, they will drop the sport.

No chance in hell the Huskies play FCS football - they save $30+ million a year by dropping the program.

We need to get Central on the UConn football schedule ASAP!

This is kinda like Monmouth's move from the NEC to the MAAC. The remaining NEC members declined to offer Monmouth FB-affiliate membership.

I totally expect UConn to be an Independent FBS program in 2020.

With a Big East move expected, UConn will not be welcome in AAC as football-only member

With the future of UConn football now up in the air with the school's planned move to the Big East for the 2020-21 seaason, a source told CBS Sports' Dennis Dodd on Saturday that the American Athletic Conference will not accept UConn as a football-only member. The Big East does not sponsor football as a conference, which would leave the Huskies program in limbo.

"I think they're under the assumption they're going to stay in our league [for football]," an AAC source told Dodd.

UConn does not plan to move its football program out of the FBS as it looks for a new home. One option is to become the seventh independent FBS team, joining Notre Dame, BYU, Army West Point, New Mexico State, UMass and Liberty.
Also, expect more lawsuits. First UConn sued BOston College when then left for the ACC, then Kevin Ollie sued UConn when he was fired without pay, now expect legal battles between UConn and The American.
"I'd be surprised if this ends pretty," a second source told Norlander, noting that the AAC is not going to make this transition easy on the program. "... [The Huskies] never fully embraced the American."

Taxpayers should form a group to sue UConn for wasting millions building Rentchler.

Exactly. So far all that the State has gotten out of Rentschler was in August/2005, when Mick Jagger, Keith Richard, & Charlie Watts took the stage.

We should put more pressure on State leaders and the UConn Athletic Department right now to require that UConn offer CCSU the first right of refusal for football and basketball guarantee ($$$) games each year before allowing them to pay private and out-of-state schools for games.

Why is UConn subsiding the Wagner, Maine, Holy Cross, and URI football programs? These are teams we are trying to compete against!

How much money has UConn provided to NEC and other "low major" teams compared to CCSU over the last decade for MBB, WBB, and FB guarantee games?

And in non-revenue sports like volleyball, soccer, baseball, softball, women's lacrosse - we should require annual games between UConn and CCSU rotating between Storrs and New Britain.

Enough is enough! We need the $$$ and exposure from playing UConn and have to step up and demand better treatment - since we aren't getting a $10 million bailout.

What does our AD/President have to say about this? Inquiring minds want to know....

From today's NH Register:
https://www.nhregister.com/uconn/articl ... 051473.php

Looks like the administration considers the football program totally expendable.

For what it’s worth, I had a discussion with a gym buddy who is well connected with UC athletics. He isn’t happy with the move and said without hesitation “This is all being done to make Geno happy...period. He’s been complaining about the AAC since day one”.

Like I said, take it for what it’s worth but while the Big East is superior to the AAC in MBB, it’s not a bad conference with four NCAA tourney teams and two NIT teams.

I’m admittedly not as basketball savvy as some of you but I just don’t understand how this move will elevate and “save” UConn sports the way they anticipate.

To paraphrase Robert Shaw in Jaws; "Geno drives the boat, Chief."

Or..."I think Geno's going to need a bigger boat."
