Good. Looks like the superstructure is starting to go up. I guess they had to wait for the concrete foundation to cure.

With this project and all the others of the last few years, this campus is really looking nice!

I am going to have stop by and have a look.
Is it going to have more square footage than the bubble?

Yes, it should be much bigger. It will be 2 floors, so even if it is the same footprint as the bubble, that's about twice the square footage.

Would love to see them make the floor plans and drawings made public. I know there will be a bunch of rooms for fitness and other activities. They posted the rendering of outside, but that's it.

Thanks for the updates. I wish the official ccsu.edu site would show photos of the progress and a more recent drawing of the building when it's completed.
As for the square footage, it looks as if most of the building will be one floor and that the second floor will only be evident in a small part of the building.
And yes, as we all have said, it's way too small for future expansion and purposes. It's either the lack of foresight, or that bugaboo, money (lack thereof).

Don't forget the footprint. It can't be expanded east or west because of constraints unless they want to reroute Kaiser Dr. to the west lies the SC parking garage.

There will be room immediately north but I'm hoping they would use that area to rebuild he tennis/basketball courts.

so what is the Detrick Gym going to look like? Will we have both sides open for seating for the 2019=20 season?

I don’t expect anything exciting Hill. I already saw a photo of the scoreboard with the same old drab wall complete with pipes and conduits.

We may see free standing hoops and there will be added seating on the north side but I’m pretty sure that’s about it.

Spanning four stories and 191,000 square feet, UConn’s new Student Recreation Center rivals any luxury gym, complete with a $100 million price tag.

The rec center includes four fitness zones, 5,000 square feet of rock climbing space, two swimming pools, a mind-body studio with an outdoor terrace, and a four-court gymnasium. “UCONN, the new Club Med,” read one comment under the center’s “sneak peek” video of the new facility.

UConn, which opens its new recreation center officially on Monday morning, is hardly the only university investing millions of dollars on non-academic amenities as they compete more intensely for a shrinking student population. College-ranking websites list dozens of schools based on which has the most luxurious recreation centers. Ohio State’s facility, built in 2007, cost $140 million. Illinois State University’s fitness center cost about $50 million.

These investments are part of a larger trend among schools aiming to attract more students, including deluxe dining halls, dormitories and recreation centers. As state funding stagnates, public universities like UConn may have to rely more heavily on student tuition to pay the bills. A 2018 Journal of Labor Economics study found that high-achieving students alone are attracted to quality academics, while new gyms or fancy dorms get attention from a larger student pool.
