Agreed JJ

I know I sound like a broken record and you guys are probably sick of me saying this but aside from the connection of the buildings at the current north wall, don't expect too much in the way of improvements to the gym.

However, it really won't take too much. One thing that would make,IMHO, a big difference is replacing the main court hoops with the contemporary movable hoops that most arenas use.

I know they have them...they are currently in the bubble.

I wonder how far along the actual design plans/rendering are? Is this a design-build contract, or is design drawings and engineering work already completed?

Would love to have the all the plans made public (site and floor plans, interior renderings/drawings) as soon as possible.

Sky- I'm sure you could dig these things up when they become available :)

Ah JJ Maybe when I was working full time, but I'm semi retired now. Although I work for a multi national engineering firm, I don't have the connections I used to.

The outside rendering has changed dramatically since the original concept, so I am also assuming it's design/build.

Honestly, I liked the original concept with the Quonset hut style roof but...we can't be choosers. At least we are getting something!

Still wish it were a basketball/volleyball facility.

A buddy of mine had a suggestion that made a ton of sense. Why didn't they convert Kaiser into the rec center and use the majority of the funds for a new bb facility?

Too late now but that's would have been a great idea.

I imagine that is probably because of the public and student perception of major athletic projects.

The new facility will immediately benefits ALL students. It will help recruit more students to CCSU. A recreation center is something that can be front and center of campus tours for prospective students.

A "arena" or "performance court" mainly benefits student-athletes and fans. That's a much smaller population and existing students and public would rightfully gripe about funds being used on a narrow purpose.

I am all for this new recreation center for students and hopefully we can leverage this construction to blend into some impactful renovations on the existing facility in Kaiser Hall. I think the best approach is to stay under the radar on major capital expenditures for Athletics and hope that we can gain some benefits from ancillary projects like the new rec center.

I hate being a broken record guys but I know from the very top that nothing but some very minor cosmetic changes will be done to the Kaiser gym.

Remember, the new rec center will cost about 23 million which is peanuts. There is no way they can build the rec center AND improve the gym with that small amount.

I know, I've repeated myself a zillion times. I'm only doing it so people won't be disappointed when they realize the gym will remain virtually the same.

The ONLY changes to the gym will be that VIP section at the current north wall integrated to the new center and MAYBE replacing the old style hang from the ceiling hoops with the more traditional self standing hoops. I'm afraid that's it folks.

Maybe they'll let us ride a mile on a spin bike after all the food we eat if we ever get an invite to the VIP section, lol

I don't expect much. Originally they said the VIP section would seat 500, is that right? If that is the case then the capacity would be around 3200.
The real problem with the gym is the low ceiling and that is not going to change.
And what exactly is a VIP section? what does that mean and who is it for?

My assumption hill, would be similar to the presidents box in football, which means the business owners whose signs are posted in the gym, alumni association members/school personesll and an occasional invite to the smaller donors of the program. I doubt it will be used like the coaches sweet for home games, although that would be cool.
