Personally I'm fine with spruceing the place up. They can do so much more with the general admission side now that the new facility is going up. If they get rid of the accordion seats, they can do a ton with permanent seats and a nice press box up high. Then they can fix the current VIP box and make all permanent chair backs on the season ticket side. Maybe then they could stop selling our season tickets to away fans. So annoying. My wife is right! I CAN B!7$@ about anything, lol!

I am all for "sprucing up Kaiser." Now I would suggest first we take off the roof and knock down the walls and put a barrel vault over it. The seating could be configured in a horseshoe with a seating of 3500 to 4000. There is plenty of room on the sides. The main entrance could be on the street facing Galaudet. I have no idea where the funding would come from!
Am I asking for too much?

My "wishlist" for Detrick Gym is even more simplistic and cheaper:

1) Remove all basketball hoops from the ceiling in the gym --> replace with portable hoops

2) Remove all NEC school "banners" and main scoreboard from South wall --> replace with new video scoreboard (like Fordham) on South wall above doors

3) Hang new cloth banners from the rafters above the front row of the East/West grandstands:
EAST grandstand facing West - 1 banner for NEC logo; 1 banner for each NEC member (10 banners in total)
WEST grandstand facing Television - 1 banner for each D-I Tourney (2000, 2002, 2007); 1 banner for all 6 D-II Tourney appearances (includes 1966 National QF); 1 banner for all 10 NAIA National Tourney appearances; 1 banner for each WNIT year (2009, 2015); 1 banner for Women's D-II Tourneys (includes 1986 National QF).

3) Hang U.S. and Connecticut Flags from rafters just above South baseline (facing CCSU banners); install any secondary/ribbon scoreboards as possible.

4) Renovate old "press box" above West grandstand into "Premier Club Seating"

5) Build North lobby between Detrick Gym and new Rec Center; install new bleachers behind North baseline; create access from North lobby to balcony and a "concourse" access to East and West grandstands.

6) Renovate existing East and West grandstands to accommodate new concourse access from the North lobby which will create lower and upper sections. Move the front rows of the lower grandstand closer to and elevated above the court.

Basically, with the existing building in place we can just open the North wall of the gym and create an arena feel with horseshoe seating capacity of 4,500. It would be a great venue for our situation and would make it possible to actually draw some national mid-major opponents.

I don't think much is going to happen with the gym guys. There is only 17 million allocated and that's only for the rec center. Seventeen million is peanuts and I'm thinking even the rec center will be bare bones with that kind of money.

Probably at a grinding halt as our fearless leader Malloy can't pull his head out of his you know where long enough to work on a budget.

I know a bit about state construction projects from my profession and if a construction start date was agreed upon with the contractor, that can't be broken regardless of the state's budgetary problems since the $$ would have already been allocated.

But...was it held up along the way to that point?

I'm hoping that final design is complete and that the contractor is ready to rock and roll.

I go by the campus often and I'll let you know if I see anything.

Obviously, I have nothing better to do tonight, so I found this. Looks like the bidding is closed. Hopefully, that's a good sign.

Interesting that the State DAS doesn't allow the publishing of bid docs directly on the internet due to the "sensitivity" of the projects. $330 just to get the bid docs seems kinda high to me, but I guess that's the cost of doing business for companies wanting to get a multi-million dollar project.

Oh well, looks like we must wait until the contractor is selected and they prepare some project renderings. Hope they at least make that available for public viewing.

Underground utility lines on the east side of the bubble and outdoor courts were flagged last week. This is usually the very first step in the construction process.

A two-level bridge will connect the center to Kaiser Hall
I am most excited to see the interior plans and renderings for this part of the building. I hold out some hope that the connection to the North wall of Kaiser Hall could have some very dramatic improvements to Detrick Gym. The new rec building is a welcome and long overdue addition to the campus.

If we can connect the new (Huang Center) with the old (Kaiser Hall) in the right way, there is the potential to freshen the look and feel of our home court. With a creative architectural design, I can envision a Fenway or Wrigley type renovation to Detrick Gym that doesn't take away from its historic look, but enhances it for a modern era.
