Our last 3 wins against Albany have all been very close (just a FG each game):

Sep. 21, 2013 - at Albany - W, 20-17 (Non-conference)
Oct. 22, 2010 - at Albany - W, 30-27 (NEC game) - CCSU NEC Co-Champs
Oct. 31, 2009 - vs. Albany - W, 31-29 (NEC game) - CCSU NEC Champs

The last 3 losses to the Great Danes have been blowouts :(

Sep. 6, 2014 - vs. Albany - L, 0-19 (Non-conference)
Nov. 17, 2012 - at Albany - L, 34-63 (NEC game) - Albany NEC Co-Champs
Oct. 22, 2011 - vs. Albany - L, 35-63 (NEC game) - Albany NEC Co-Champs

Don’t look at that record.

This is an entirely new team and new generation of coaches. This is not the old CCSU - I honestly feel that this is the best overall CCSU team ever, well, since 2000.

This is a very winnable game at Albany. The blue out needs to be in full force.

Parking at the SEFCU lot next to Casey Stadium will be a mess. We have a 1:00 basketball game vs. American scheduled. Trying to move it to 10:00 but even then it won't end until less than an hour before kickoff. (AU has a return flight scheduled). Plan on parking in the Dutch Quad lot. At least there won't be any students in it.

re Respect: home game in the 1st round is determined almost entirely by the bid submitted to the NCAA ($30,000 minimum), only the 8 seeds are guaranteed home games in the 2nd round.

Tickets (other than your school's allotment) go on sale at 2 pm Tuesday.

Welcome back UAalum72. It's been a while since Central and Albany have been rivals. The Danes made it off the island to the CAA, and you have a great facility.

Neither team is getting much respect. Albany finishes #2 in the CAA, but is only ranked #25. Central is one play from 12-0, and we are dogged by our "weak" schedule and conference.

I expect this to be a close game. Both teams are riding high and have a lot to play for. I think our defense is the difference maker and think the Blue Devils come out on top.

We're familiar foes, but a long time has passed since our last NEC game in 2012. Hopefully a CCSU win puts a feather in our cap and makes us more attractive for the CAA in the future :). Wish we were playing conference game vs UA, SBU, URI, Maine, and UNH.

FCS First-Round Playoff

The Matchup - Central Connecticut State (11-1, 7-0 Northeast) at Albany (8-4, 6-2 CAA)

Kickoff - 1 p.m. ET at Bob Ford Field in Albany, New York

Coverage - ESPN3

Series - Albany leads 13-6 (last meeting: Albany won 19-0 at CCSU on Sept. 6, 2014)

Coaches - Central Connecticut State: Ryan McCarthy (11-1, first season); Albany: Greg Gattuso (32-36, six seasons; 129-68 overall)

3 Players to Watch - Central Connecticut State: QB Aaron Winchester (3,183 total yards of offense, 26 total TDs), WR Tyshaun James (1,108 scrimmage yards, 14 total TDs), DB D.J. Exihomme (68 tackles, 4 takeaways); Albany: QB Jeff Undercuffler (2,966 passing yards, 33 TDs), RB Karl Mofor (1,204 rushing yards, 10 total TDs), LB Eli Mencer (22 tackles for loss, 13½ sacks)

The Skinny - Both teams have made one previous playoff appearance as the Northeast Conference representative. Central Connecticut State's Ryan McCarthy was elevated from interim coach during a season in which this year's NEC champion has set the school record for wins. The Blue Devils lead the FCS in turnover margin (plus-17) and their rush defense has been one of the best in recent FCS history, allowing 72.1 yards per game and only three touchdowns. Winchester, a Georgia State grad transfer, is a dual-threat who exceeded 50 rushing yards nine times (782 overall). His counterpart, Undercuffler, is tied for the second-most TD passes in the FCS, although his only two games without multiple scores were the last two of the regular season. His key targets are WRs Juwan Green (73 receptions, 14 TDs) and Jerah Reeves (64, 5), but the tight ends have combined for 10 TD catches. Mofor has gone over 100 rushing yards in three straight games. The Great Danes, who finished second in CAA Football, have closed games well, outscoring opponents 104-46 in the fourth quarter.

Up Next - The winner will play at No. 5 seed Montana State (9-3) in the second round Dec. 7.

Prediction - In matchups between the NEC and CAA, the NEC team usually doesn't have the higher national ranking, but CCSU is No. 17 and Albany No. 25. Establishing the stronger run game will be key to setting up the run. CCSU, 24-23.

A great match-up with a great program that we all have a lot of respect for. In fact in the old NEC days, I always look at Albany as our Harvard. This is the most important game in CCSU’s history. We have all discussed the possibility of an eventual move to the CAA, so we need a win here to prove that we belong.

I seriously can’t believe the AD can’t pony up for a fan bus, or 2,3.. They could really be pumping this up starting last Saturday on social media, the news, advertising but alas are pulling a CCSU. Again! 🤦🏻‍♂️

Agreed hoops. I heard there will be a bus for students but nothing for season ticket holders or alumni who are the biggest supporters of this program. Where are you C.J. ? We need you and miss you. Anyways hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving . Go BluebDevils BEAT UAlbany.
