From the Yale Athletics Football website:
2018 Ivy League Football Preseason Media Poll (First-Place Votes)
1. Yale (11), 129
2. Princeton (3), 104
3. Harvard (1), 99
T4. Columbia (1), 76
T4. Penn (1), 76
6. Dartmouth, 65
7. Cornell, 37
8. Brown, 26

Columbia’s stock is quite undervalued in this poll and the Lions will actually be competing for the Ivy title before the year is out. My guess is that they will be a slight favorite over CCSU. This may be our toughest opponent for the remainder of the regular season.

I plan to be there.

Of course, this (IMHO) is the the first real test as to what they can do at the FCS level.

Columbia is listed as a 1.5-point favorite.

This is really the first game of the season! As the outcomes of the first two games was pretty much predetermined...anything else would have been a monumental upset.
Hope that the coaching staff has them ready!

And from the Columbia Spectator:
While this Lions team has clearly defined strengths and weaknesses and no game tape, its opponent seems to be the opposite. The Central Connecticut State Blue Devils (1-1) had quite the tumultuous start to the season: the preseason Northeast Conference favorite lost its opener 42-6 to a potent Ball State team but turned everything around in a 55-0 trouncing of Lincoln University (PA). According to Bagnoli, while the Blue Devils’ athleticism were evident in both games, the talent disparity between the two opponents makes it difficult to gauge Central’s true talent.

“The problem is, they played up in week one [against Ball State], and they played down to a Division II school, and not a very good Division II school [in week two],” Bagnoli said. “But we know the starting point is they are athletic. You saw some of the things they did in space against Ball State, then you watch Ball State’s performance against Notre Dame and you know [CCSU is] athletic. To what degree is hard to totally gauge.”

Coincidentally, CCSU is also Bagnoli’s alma mater. He played for the Blue Devils football team from 1972-1974 and graduated in 1975. Saturday will mark his first game coaching at his old stomping grounds.

Bagnoli and the Light Blue head into the game ranked fourth in the preseason Ivy League poll, a minor slight after finishing behind only Yale last season. However, beating CCSU—which went 8-4 in a tough conference in 2017—would do a lot to dispel any doubts around the new-look Lions. It will be interesting to see if having two games already under its belt will be to Central’s advantage, especially given the relative inexperience of many new Lions players.

Al Bagnoli is a great football coach - a nine time Ivy League champion at U of Penn. He was hired to turn around a proverbial loser in Columbia football. When he took over, Columbia was on a dismal 24 game losing streak and in his third season he posted an 8-2 record.
Central's athletics program and PE department must be doing something right!
This is going to be a good test for Central. We have learned absolutely nothing about this team after the two games

Al Bagnoli is yet another in the seemingly endless procession of great coaches that CCSU has produced for colleges, high schools, and the Pros. The Blue Devil Athletic program is an extremely valuable part of our University and an important resource for our students and the State of Connecticut.

NB Herald preview by David Glovach:
“We have no idea what they’re going to be,” Rossomando said. “Obviously, they have the same coaching staff, so we have a pretty good idea of what they’re going to do, but there’s going to be some wrinkles we haven’t seen. We have to do a good job of making adjustments on the run. We should be ahead of them from a procedural standpoint. Will we be? I don’t know.”

What Rossomando and his coaching staff do know is the Lions are coming off their best season in 21 years, finishing 2017 with an 8-2 record, a five-win improvement from the year before and good for second in the Ivy League. Columbia’s only two losses were against Harvard and Yale in back-to-back weeks toward the end of the schedule.

The Lions are led by CCSU alum Al Bagnoli, who played for the Blue Devils from 1972-1974. This will be his first trip back to New Britain as a head coach, but he has had plenty of success during his time away. He won the Ivy League nine times during his 23-year tenure as Penn’s head coach and compiled a 148-80 record.

“This team is going to come in and play disciplined,” Rossomando said. “They’re going to play hard-nosed for four quarters. They’re going to do everything they need to do to win the game. I told our kids, ‘you’re going to have to win this game because they’re not going to hand it to you. I’ve watched six, seven games [from last season and] they haven’t given one away yet.”

But unlike CCSU, Columbia is coming in with a few new players at some key positions on offense, mainly at center and quarterback. Josh Bean, a sophomore, is expected to take over under center for the Lions after winning the competition out of camp.

And absolutely nothing in the Courant (at least online) again regarding our upcoming home football game.

CCSU is hosting an Ivy League team at Arute for just the 3rd time ever ...
Al Bagnoli, a CCSU alumn and a one of the most successful coaches in the history of the Ivy League returns to New Britain ...
Central is defending NEC champs and returns the program's all-time leading passer ...
Blue Devils are 1-1 on the season, after playing Ball State (FBS), and shutting out a D-II team before more than 5k fans last week ...

Story lines galore and we are still ignored by the State's largest daily newspaper down the street :(
