Projecting our playoff opponent

Post by J.J. » Sun Nov 12, 2017 11:34 pm

The NEC representative has played a CAA or Patriot league opponent in the First Round of the FCS playoffs for the last 5 years. In the 7 years the NEC has had AQ status, the NEC team has gone on the road 6 times. The lone home game was in 2012 when Wagner hosted Patriot League Champion Colgate, which also happens to be the NEC's only win in the playoffs.

FCS Championship – NEC First Round Opponents
2010 – Robert Morris at North Dakota State (MVFC At-Large)
2011 – Albany at Stony Brook (Big South AQ)
2012 - Wagner vs. Colgate (Patriot AQ)
2013 – Sacred Heart vs. Fordham (Patriot At-Large)
2014 – Sacred Heart vs. Fordham (Patriot AQ)
2015 – Duquesne vs. William & Mary (CAA At-Large)
2016 – Saint Francis vs. Villanova (CAA At-Large)
2017 – Central Connecticut State vs. ???

Potential CCSU Opponents:
New Hampshire (CAA At-Large)
Stony Brook (CAA At-Large)
Lehigh (Patriot AQ)
Delaware (CAA At-Large)

Questions for discussion:
- What are the odds that CCSU/NEC put up a bid to host a First Round game at Arute Field?
- What opponent would you most and least like to see CCSU play?

Hosting would be a dream! Assuming we could pack it for such an event. That would be awesome!

I would have liked our odds better if UNH didn't build a new stadium. IMO - they are a lock to host CCSU this year. I don't see how we can outbid them or any CAA team, and based on the field this year, I doubt we get the chance to host the PL champ Lehigh.

Selection Sunday (in all sports) is the most fun when CCSU is getting ready to have their name called. I can't wait!

Hopefully season ticket holders can get some tickets to an away game.

Anyone should be able to get tickets anywhere we play for the playoffs, most likely through the opponent's box office.

Don't think they will sell out? I guess it depends upon how big the place is. I'd hope we'd have a sell out if we hosted...

How exciting would it be! We can all point out the size and layout deficiencies of Arute Stadium, however it is a legit venue to play some football and for fans to enjoy. Not to mention that our scoreboard is arguably FBS quality.

Has the expanded stadium ever sell out? I️ recall some larger crowds after it first opened .

Not sure about officially however it was close a time or two if I recall correctly. I'd have to assume we could sell it out if the school got behind it and advertised the heck out of it, internally and externally. Man that would be something! Alas, I agree with posters above, probably get hosted elsewhere. Hopefully some day...

Well...we need all the positive news we can get...we got a singular “also recieving votes” in the FCS rankings! I dont know if we ever got that far...even when Hairston played.

This projection has us at Stony Brook in the First Round with the winner slated to go to #1 James Madison. I would note they have UNH missing the playoffs, which I don't think will happen. If they beat Albany this week, they are almost assured to make the bracket with a 8-3 (6-2 CAA) record.
