Scribner 04+19+13

Post by bigbluefan1965 » Fri Apr 19, 2013 7:55 pm

Scribner just came in the game for the A's. He's been pitching well lately and is having a good night tonight. They just went through his bio, where he was born, where he lives, but no mention of CCSU. Usually the Rays broadcasters nine times out of ten mention a players college/prep/H.S. background. Maybe they don't recognize CCSU?

Am I the only one posting info about Evan Scribner?

Here's the latest, as of July 26, 2014:

7/24/2014 1:06 P.M. ET
A's Recall Scribner from Sacramento; Designate Johnson for Assignment
OAKLAND, Calif. - The Oakland A's recalled right-handed pitcher Evan Scribner from Triple-A Sacramento and designated right-handed pitcher Jim Johnson for assignment, the club announced today.

Scribner was on the A's Opening Day roster and tossed 1.1 scoreless innings in two appearances before he was optioned to Sacramento April 7. He returned for a second stint June 17 but did not appear in a game before he was sent back to the River Cats June 20. The 29-year-old right-hander is 4-1 with a 3.35 ERA and .243 opponents batting average in 31 games with Sacramento and ranks fourth in the Pacific Coast League with 14 saves. Scribner has 57 strikeouts in 37.2 innings, an average of 13.62 strikeouts per nine innings, and has walked just seven for a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 8.14.

Johnson was 4-2 with two saves, one blown save, a 6.92 ERA and .353 opponents batting average in 38 relief appearances with the A's. The ERA is the highest among Major League relievers as is his .434 opponents on-base percentage. His opponents batting average is the highest in the American League. Johnson has allowed 12 runs on 13 hits in 4.1 innings over his last five games.

Yeah I think Scribner is up for good (because of a disappointing bullpen and the A's being out of "options".)

Evan Scribner is on what Red Sox fans call "the Merloni Highway".
On the bright side, he must make a pretty good wage, and it sure beats working for a living!

Not sure if anyone has been watching, but Scribner has been lights-out!!! Last night he struck our Freese, Pujols, and Trout on 12 pitches to end the game! He's developed a fantastic cutter which has made him much more effective.
Currently he has a 1.46 ERA and a 0.65 WHIP.

Those numbers will keep him in the majors for a long time. 8)

Scribner and the A's are coming into the Stadium next week.
I hope they mention his educational background.

From mlbtraderumors.com:

Mariners To Acquire Evan Scribner From A’s
December 8th, 2015 at 6:20pm CST • By Steve Adams
6:20pm: Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle tweets that Scribner to the Mariners “sounds as if” it “is indeed happening.”

5:55pm: The Mariners “appear close” to a trade that would send Athletics right-hander Evan Scribner to Seattle, according to Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune (Twitter link).

Scribner, 30, is coming off a season in which he posted a 4.35 ERA in 60 innings with Oakland, though there’s quite a bit to like about him when glancing at numbers beyond ERA. Scribner posted an incredible 64-to-4 K/BB ratio this past season, which, when paired with the numbers he posted in a small sample of work in 2014, gives him 75 strikeouts against just four walks over his past 71 2/3 innings in the Majors.

Scribner’s main problem has been an unusually high homer-to-flyball ratio; nearly one of every four balls put into the air against him has left the yard dating back to 2014. Homer-to-flyball rate tends to stabilize around 10 to 11 percent for the average pitcher, and home runs were never much of a problem for Scribner in the minor leagues, where he has a career HR/9 rate of just 0.6 despite spending his Triple-A days in the incredibly hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. Metrics like xFIP and SIERA peg Scribner’s work over the past two seasons more along the lines of a mid-2.00s ERA.

The Mariners would be acquiring four years of control over Scribner, who is a Super Two player (two years, 142 days of Major League service time) and is projected by MLBTR contributor Matt Swartz to earn a modest $700K salary in 2016.

Evan may be on rehab assignment with one of the Seattle minor league teams. It was reported on the "aggate page" of the Courant.
