12.29.18 CCSU @ Oregon State

Time once again to tilt at windmills. OSU is 7-4, with their four losses coming at a combined 16 points. Hope the check clears.

Indeed. Another unsuccessful ooc schedule imho. Wonder if we will ever make noise outside of the little NEC? Cash the check and move on to NEC play this week.

It sure sux having to play for money but let’s see what they can do.

I was surprised I was able to get the PAC 12 network on my iPad for about 5 min, but it shut off saying I don’t have the network on my xfinity plan.

Well the PAC 12 network graciously allowed me a whole 4:59 of a preview, to which I watched Central miss every single shot they took, foul twice and turn the ball over 3 x for fast breaks... ugh

I know many oppose scheduling these top teams, but I really think it will pay dividends long term in national exposure and preparing for the NEC. And of course getting a small pay day from gate reciepts. And a 21 pt loss is respectful, although the actual play was not. For recruiting it will be stated that CCSU outscored Oregon State in the second half. An ugly game, but a few positives to focus on!

Very good points 80Alum. It was just very frustrating when your opponent goes on a 24 to 0 run and you look like you don't belong on the same floor with them.

Curious how you think it will pay dividends? Let’s face it folks, we’re going on 12 years without a bid and haven’t had a competitive ooc showing in a very long time. Not sure what the answer is but I’d love to see us take that step, starting to wonder if it will ever happen at this point. I mean, sure we’ll get a bid sooner or later but I’d love to be competitive for an entire season, flirt with a good rpi or whatever the cool kids follow now and win the NEC going away and pull a win out as a 14 seed. Is that so much to ask for? lol

I have to agree with Hoops. Those of us who go back a few years remember when CCSU competed on the same level and even defeating the likes of LaSalle, UMass, Air Force and Providence. They were so good that it became tough scheduling quality OOC games both home AND away.

Granted, that was maybe a three year period but we thought that the team could be consistent year after year.

I know successful athletes is cyclical but it seems that CCSU MBB has been on the bottom of the circle too long.

BTW...anyone notice the Bryant/#24 Iowa score? And...Princeton/#17 AZ State, WKU/#15 Wisconsin?

Hey nobody expects a bottom half conference team to beat a major, yet it does happen. Pretty much every D1 school plays an OC schedule that spans the spectrum of D1 schools. For us they are money games and a chance for a long shot upset. For the majors they can pad their record going into conference play and maybe make it look good for a chance at an at large bid.
No big deal.

Time to get ready for conference play.

Western Kentucky is the dirtiest program in the country. With what they are spending on recruits they should be in the top 20.

Between Baltimore and Maine there are over 100+ CBB programs and only two of them matter - UConn and Villanova. Fifteen or so have some history and might have a good team every now and again (St John’s; Seton Hall, SBA, Providence), 10 or so had a good season or two at some point (URI, Siena, Hofstra) - the rest are just interchangable pieces for coaches and players to put together a resume to get somewhere better.

Central is wildly disadvantaged against 95% of the meaningless schools. Other than you like Donyell Marshall why would you choose Central over schools not in New Britain with facilities that are light years better?

A discouraging, although somewhat accurate assessment.

I will take some solace later this afternoon in watching the EE's hockey team get beat over at Ingalls Rink.

Yup...CCSU is behind the 8 ball when it comes to recruiting, and it’s only going to get worse as schools like RMU develop world class facilities...but I’m sure most of us know that as well.
