Live Stream options..

Post by Larryl9797 » Thu Sep 06, 2018 11:18 am

Ok does anyone have the news on live stream options for MBB and FB? It looks like ESPN went pay only service. I don't see ESPN3 anymore. What will the stream options be? (YouTube maybe?)

ESPN3 still exists and ESPN+ is something new and distinct.

ESPN+ has a bunch of soccer rights and MAC/SB/CUSA football. I suspect the AAC will end up there for their streaming in their next deal.

First, the Northeast Conference has to update NEC Front Row and develop a mobile streaming app. While the league was once a leader in online streaming, everyone else has caught up and is offering better products. Streaming from a HTML webpage is old school, so I would like to see the league strike a deal with ESPN and push all school-produced broadcasts to one of ESPN's digital platforms (ESPN3 or ESPN+), just like they do for NEC-productions.

- ESPN3 is online streaming content only available to existing cable/satellite subscription members.
- ESPN+ is online streaming subscription ($4.99/month) available direct to consumers.
- Watch ESPN is the app that you use stream any ESPN content (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN News, ESPN3, ESPN+).

Second, CCSU has to do something to support its own audio broadcast (radio/streaming). Bruce and Marc used to cover all men's basketball games at home and on the road; they were available on 1410 AM WPOP and streamed on iHeart Radio. Those days seem all but gone, as last year they only worked HOME games and it was only available on NEC Front Row. Miss having CCSU coverage of all games.

Remember the CCSU ESPN Radio Network (1410 AM - Hartford, 1300 AM - New Haven, and streaming on iHeart Radio)?

Now UConn has dumped the 10K-watt 1080 WTIC as its flagship for 97.9 FM - ESPN Radio Hartford. They also have AM affiliates across the State and stream on iHeartRadio like we used to do. There has to be some opportunity in there for CCSU?

2018 CCSU Football Online Streaming

at Ball State (ESPN+)
vs. Lincoln (NEC Front Row)
vs. Columbia (NEC Front Row)
at Fordham
at Lafayette (LSN/PLN)
at Robert Morris (NEC Front Row)
at Bryant (NEC Front Row)
vs. Sacred Heart (ESPN3)
vs. Wagner (NEC Front Row)
at Saint Francis (ESPN3)
vs. Duquesne (NEC Front Row or ESPN3) *Wildcard

No CCSU produced local/streaming radio for any games. The CCSU broadcast team will only do 3 games (Lincoln, Columbia, and Wagner) if the finale vs. Duquesne is picked up by the NEC as a ESPN3 production.

Fordham will not stream the game; it is only available on radio at WFUV (90.7 FM) in the Bronx.

Lafayette Sports Network (LSN) / Patriot League Network (PLN)

All good questions for our AD. What is the PLAN? There never seems to be a plan for CCSU athletics, just the cop out of budget constraints. Seriously, how hard is it to find money to pay Bruce and Marc to travel to road games and stream that online? I mean are they telling us that there is no such service out there? I just did a two second search for a service and livestream.com just came up. Seriously how hard is it? Especially for audio only? Drives me crazy.

Hi Guys, Haven't been around for a while basically because I am having difficulty following the Blue Devils since the demise of the Blue Devil Radio Network. I've read some of the posts about this topic and it seems there are a lot of people very disenchanted with the current lack of home town radio coverage.

I know, the NEC has one of the best free streaming sites in the NCAA. But, we usually get the opponents broadcasters...we don't even get a Neutral broadcast team anymore. It's no fun without Bruce and Marc. I honestly could not name the Blue Devils starting five. Heck, I don't even know if I could name five players on the team or even a coach other than Marshall.

Yes, road games can be heard on the opponents streams. But again, I am tired of hearing the opponents broadcast team and their homer mentality's. Also, I really don't want to go through the hassle of signing up for the opponents media portal every road game.

So, I haven't been around here because I don't believe I have the knowledge and therefore the right to comment on CCSU athletics anymore.

CCSU has created a void, a total disconnect with it's fans in my opinion. They have lost a very dedicated and committed die hard fan here.

I wonder how many other fans and alums CCSU has lost since the demise of the Blue Devil Radio Network. There is no excitement, anticipation, or atmosphere associated with the CCSU athletic program anymore.

I can say the same for football also.

:( :( :(

In regards to my last post. The biggest issue I have with a lack of an Audio Stream only is that I used to listen to CCSU while on the road. I refuse to eat up my data plan with a video stream. Very poor execution with game broadcasts reaching fans.

Hey BB. Long time. Hoping the new AD will fix some of the garbage that has happened since our last AD and subsequent open position. Not off to a good start with what appears to be a VIP only meet and greet w/ the team and Coach Marshall. Wish someone knew something about that but I don't believe anyone responded to my inquiry, Assuming it was need to know and apparently none of us fans are need to know...

Oh and if you really want to get ticked off, go find the post about Calhoun's d3 team getting radio. It's a hoot

Not me. But if this was truly for people who write big checks and are corporate sponsors, that's fantastic - no hard feeling here! Every program needs to have high-rollers and influential people who support the program and athletic department - they deserve special access and benefits. Every D-I program needs to cultivate these types of VIP relationships (and revenue) - so that's a positive sign.

That being said, they still have to do a better job getting the "working class" fan base excited and really put in some effort to expand the appeal/value/entertainment of CCSU men's basketball beyond the regulars here or season ticket holders. How about formal events with the students, and local community? If people UConn fans are willing to watch Calhoun coach a D-III start-up program, you'd think there a number of people that want to follow Donyell's career as a D-I coach at a state university?

They should do the annual kickoff dinner and also have Donyell do a regular "Coaches Show" at a local sports bar. These are things being done at most D-I places, including "peers" like Bryant. Get out into the community and media to market the heck out of the program/school outside of the dozen of us that care to post on this board.

At times I feel like CCSU athletics is like an indy rock band that very few people know about and is the best kept secret out there. The music is really good at times, but there is a fear of an expended audience means the band is a "mainstream, corporate sell-out."

Not if they don't even allow people to join such rankings. What's the buy in? The EE makes no bones about it, they put it there in black and white what they are looking for. Problem with CCSU is its low d1 ball so I'm hoping their price isn't ridiculous however what will be accomplished if they don't publish such things, piss off people on Twitter that weren't invited because they have no idea how to get invited? Great strategy. Again, this is all assumption, no clue what actually happened because of course there was no communications.

Also, and I know our season tickets haven't increased in a few years, however at last check (2 years ago maybe?) we are still the most expensive ticket in the NEC. You'd think season ticket holders would have gotten an invite? To whatever it was? lol
