Re: Recruiting under Sellers off to a good start...

Yep, we won't learn anything about basketball vs. UConn or NC State, but you will learn a lot about attitude. We will be outsized on the court and the final score likely won't be close. How do they conduct themsleves on the bench and on the court when you are outmanned? As long as they aren't out hu...

Re: Recruiting under Sellers off to a good start...

Bigs at this level are always projects. You have to develop at this level, otherwise they would be starting in the A-10 or Big East. I'm fine with the recruiting strategy so far. I really like where he is going to find recruits. Central does quite well internationally and looking at Canada, Europe, ...

Re: Recruiting under Sellers off to a good start...

Agreed. Developing some walk-on strength at this level is good news and adds some depth. An in-state kid has low tuition and can earn a scholly in a season or two. Guys like this, even with limited minutes, often become fan favorites due to hustle and effort. This is the kinda thing that elevates a ...

Re: Tom Pincince “Interim” AD

Great podcast. Tom is a professional through and through. We know this is not an easy job, but he does it with a sense of calm. He's humble, yet he gets his hands dirty and does the hard work that may go unoticed. He's pretty transparent in our challenges and also optimistic. Most importantly he is ...

Re: 2021-22 Non-Conference Schedule

I feel like Central drew well in those UMass games at Mohegan some years back. Obviously, winning helps. No surprise at the lackluster turnout last time we were in the building vs Vermont and Columbia. The program was in shambles and we lost those games by 30+. Home games in New Britain will definit...

Re: 2021-22 Non-Conference Schedule

It looks like we are playing in the mid-major bracket of the Hall of Fame Classic at Mohegan Sun: https://twitter.com/GoodmanHoops/status/1411059418192547842?s=20 Not sure of the exact format or matchups, but the announcement of a 2-day showcase implies that the "mid majors" CCSU and UMass-Lowell w...

Re: Assistant Coach - Ben Wood

Agreed. Less experienced coach and limited recruiting background, but lots of good experience at UConn, URI, Buffalo, and ASU. Worked for both Hurley brothers. Local guy that knows the area. Will likely do a lot of scouting, analytics, and working with the players. Nice pickup. Agree with 4-3, the f...

Re: Monetizing Name, Image, Likeness

If won Powerball, I would definitely support CCSU fiscally with a sizable donation (most likely to fund a capital improvent or endowment), but I'm not funding individual recruits/players. At the same time, as an alum and booster I could now, to the extent possible, offer jobs/opportunity to student-...

Assistant Coach - Ben Wood

Jon Rothstein just tweeted:

Central Connecticut's Pat Sellers will hire Arizona State's Ben Wood as an assistant coach. Sellers and Wood worked together years ago at UConn.

Re: Monetizing Name, Image, Likeness

Bottom line is CCSU players can now earn some well-deserved money if they work for it. Nobody today gets something for nothing. I see minor endorsements, but more likely they can tutor and work out with younger players, maybe get an early jump on a career, and can take part in a lot of opportunities...

Re: Monetizing Name, Image, Likeness

What if a wealthy alum from an NEC school—a business owner—vows to pay every player $15k/year to make a token appearance in an ad? Or if Spike Lee shells out $500k to the LIU basketball team if they make a 10 second appearance as extras in one of his movies? Can that happen? And how tf would we be ...

Assistant Coach - Lamar Chapman

A source informed me that Pat Sellers has selected his top assistant coach - Lamar Chapman , most recently the Interim Head Coach at Northern Illinois (MAC). He was at NIU for 4 seasons and was named interim HC on Jan. 3, 2021 after they fired Mark Montgomery. On March 6, 2021, NIU hired Rashon Brun...

Re: Welcome home Pat Sellers!

He is just fantastic, really great interview. Love everything he said and his approach. Can't wait to get the season started. My only concern is the lack of any info or progress on filling out his staff. Pat is doing everything and he's going to work harder than any HC out there. However, as he remi...
